Will dry cleaning remove mould from curtains?

Writer: FarthingsFarthings

A typical issue is mould on curtains, particularly in houses with poor ventilation or high humidity levels.

You might be wondering if dry cleaning is a good option if your curtains have unattractive mould stains or a musty smell.

The simple answer is that, while dry cleaning can kill mould spores, it can be difficult to remove the “marks” created by the mould, particularly if the mould has gotten firmly ingrained in the fabric.

Dry cleaning will halt mould growth but will not eliminate the stains it leaves behind.

Dry cleaning efficacy varies depending on several factors, such as the kind of fabric and the extent of the infestation.

Additionally, dry cleaning doesn't deal with the mould's underlying source, so if the problem (such as excessive humidity or moist circumstances) isn't fixed, the mould can come back.

How to prevent mould growth on curtains:

Take into account the following advice to stop mould from ever growing on your curtains:

• Increase ventilation by keeping windows open whenever you can or by using dehumidifiers.

• Clean and check curtains frequently for early indications of mould growth.

• Keep curtains away from windows that are prone to condensation or moist walls.

• Clean curtains on a regular basis, particularly in humid seasons.
